John Monkouschool, also known as John Monkou School der E.B.G.S., is located at Angalampoelaan no. 8 in the district of Wanica. The school serves 189 students and 18 teachers. A clean, safe and hygienic school environment is essential for the wellbeing of students and staff and supports a more comfortable learning and working environment.
The school’s toilet facilities were decades old and in urgent need of renovation. The boys’ and girls’ toilet groups had been in use for approximately 62 years. Several parts of the facilities were damaged or outdated, including yellowed and partly broken toilet bowls, floor tiles and washbasin tiles. In the boys’ section, urine remained on the floor and partly flowed toward the schoolyard. The cover of the septic tank was also damaged, causing unpleasant odours around the toilet area.
With support from Staatsolie Foundation, the school was able to renovate the sanitary facilities. The project focused on improving hygiene, functionality and comfort for both students and teachers. During or after the renovation, roof leakage was also identified at the toilet block. Additional support was provided to repair the roof section, so the renovated facilities could be used properly and sustainably.
The renovated facilities were officially handed over on 23 June 2026. Through this project, Staatsolie Foundation contributed to better basic facilities at the school and to a cleaner, more dignified learning environment for the children and teachers of John Monkouschool.
