Environment

We manage the environmental impact of our operations through waste and emissions management, responsible use of natural resources, and protection of water and ecosystems. Environmental impacts are considered from project planning through daily operations and monitoring.

Environmental Management

Assessing and Monitoring Impacts

Staatsolie uses an environmental management system to identify and manage environmental impacts across its operations. The system is certified to ISO 14001. Environmental Management and Monitoring Plans define the measures required for specific activities and projects, while inspections, sampling and monitoring are used to check environmental conditions and compliance with applicable requirements.

Before major projects begin, Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) are carried out to identify potential effects on water, ecosystems, wildlife and nearby communities. Field studies provide information about the project area, while consultations gather input from communities and other stakeholders. The findings are used to determine measures to avoid, reduce or manage impacts during project development and operations.

Environmental Protection

Managing Operational Impacts

Our operations generate produced water, waste and emissions that require careful management. Produced water is treated before discharge and monitored against applicable requirements. Waste is collected, separated and managed through procedures for safe handling, recycling and disposal. Operational emissions are measured and monitored to track emissions from our activities and identify where reductions can be made.

Our operations also take place in wetlands and other natural habitats. We monitor vegetation, wildlife, soil and other ecological conditions to identify potential changes in the surrounding environment. The results help determine whether additional measures are needed to reduce impacts and protect habitats near our operations.
