Openbare Nijverheidsschool is a lower vocational education school in Paramaribo. The school prepares students for practical professions and provides training in different study areas, including Hospitality and Elderly Care. For this type of education, well-equipped classrooms and realistic practical training spaces are essential. They help students develop the skills, confidence and work attitude needed for their future profession.
Several areas at the school needed renovation to better support daily teaching and practical training. The teachers’ room needed improvement so it could better serve as a space for rest, administration, lesson preparation, meetings and receiving guests. A multifunctional classroom used for lessons, exams and assessment moments also needed to be better arranged for flexible use. In addition, the practical training room for Elderly Care required a more realistic and home-like setup, so students could practise care-related skills in an environment that better reflects real-life situations.
The sanitary facilities also needed attention. At the time of the request, all students had to rely on one toilet facility, which was insufficient and not ideal from a hygiene perspective. Improving these basic facilities was important for the wellbeing and dignity of the students and the wider school community.
With support from Staatsolie Foundation, the school was able to carry out the necessary renovation works. The project contributes to better learning conditions, stronger vocational education and improved support for both students and teachers. The renovated spaces were officially handed over on 7 August 2026. Through this project, Staatsolie Foundation contributed to education, skills development and a more supportive school environment for young people preparing for the world of work.
