O.S. Gijsbertus needed major renovation work to create a safer and more suitable learning environment. Before the project, several parts of the school showed signs of deterioration. Walls and ceilings were outdated or damaged, paintwork was overdue, ventilation and natural light were limited in some areas, and the sanitary facilities were in moderate to poor condition. Parts of the roof showed leakage and wear, while floors, doors, windows and electrical installations also required attention.
Water nuisance during heavy rainfall was another important issue. Corridors and classrooms needed to be raised to reduce the risk of water entering the school buildings. The project also included improvements to drainage facilities and the construction of a new walkway, helping students and teachers move around the school more safely and comfortably.
With support from Staatsolie Foundation, the school was able to carry out a broad renovation. The work included repairs to roof leaks, replacement of gutters and roof finishing, renovation of ceilings and partition walls, interior and exterior painting, raising of doors, installation of new windows, demolition and renewal of sanitary facilities, improvements to the water installation, installation of new lighting and placement of fencing.
The renovated school was officially handed over on 12 June 2026. Through this project, Staatsolie Foundation contributed to better school facilities, improved comfort and a more welcoming learning environment for the O.S. Gijsbertusstraat school community.
