The basketball court is located at the George Pindon Sportcomplex on Floralaan in Flora. The complex is managed by Stichting Ressortontwikkeling Flora and is used by schools, young people, athletes and residents from the surrounding area. It plays an important role in school sports, neighbourhood sports and recreational activities.
Over time, the existing basketball court had become difficult to use. The court had subsided and was lower than the surrounding ground level. During rainfall, water collected on the surface and the court could remain unusable for days. This affected schools that use the complex for physical education, as well as young people and community members who use the space after school and in the evenings.
With Staatsolie’s support, the basketball court was raised, hardened and relined. These improvements help make the court safer, more durable and suitable for regular use. The project benefits several nearby primary and junior secondary schools, including schools in and around Flora, as well as young people from the neighbourhood and veteran football players who use the wider sport complex.
The renewal of the basketball court also aligns with Staatsolie’s 45th anniversary community initiatives. As Staatsolie’s head office is located in Flora, the project was a meaningful way to give back to the surrounding community. The renewed court was officially handed over on 11 March 2026 and helps ensure that the sport complex can continue to support movement, recreation and community connection in Flora.
