Background Information

In 2025, Staatsolie launched the 45 jaar Staatsolie Studiebeurzenfonds as part of its 45th anniversary. The fund supports 45 young Surinamese students from financially vulnerable households, helping them continue their education at MBO, HBO or university level in Suriname.

The scholarship was launched on 22 July 2025 under the motto “Skoropapira na yu saka, fu kraka yu baka.” It covers study-related costs such as tuition and/or materials, a monthly allowance during the nominal study period, and laptop support of up to USD 500 per student.

The project is implemented in partnership with the Nationale Ontwikkelingsbank van Suriname N.V. (NOB), which manages registration, selection, agreements and study progress monitoring. Through this initiative, Staatsolie invests in education, youth development and long-term capacity building for Suriname.
