Offshore

Suriname’s offshore area is part of the Guyana-Suriname Basin, where several oil discoveries have been made in recent years. Exploration and development are carried out by international oil and gas companies under agreements with the State of Suriname.

Staatsolie is involved in the offshore sector through partnerships and its subsidiaries. This includes participating in offshore developments and, through Staatsolie Hydrocarbon Institute (SHI), managing petroleum agreements and overseeing petroleum activities on behalf of the State.

As offshore projects move from exploration to development and production, they can generate government revenues, create jobs and increase opportunities for Surinamese companies.

Staatsolie also works to increase local participation in the sector and ensure that offshore activities meet applicable environmental, safety and regulatory requirements.
