Promising first observations with Multibeam and Piston Coring in Suriname

The Multibeam Echo Sounder (MBES) survey offshore Suriname has been successfully completed. This survey, which began in the middle of this year, covered an area of ​​more than 44,000 km². Piston Coring started in early November, taking samples from the seabed.

What's happening with Piston Coring?

The piston corer is a long, heavy tube that is sent into the seabed to collect sediment samples. These samples help us understand the geological and ecological history of our seabed.

How exactly does it work?

- The piston corer is lowered into the seabed from a ship.

- After free fall, the corer penetrates the sediment.

- The sediment-filled core is brought back to the surface for analysis.

Piston Coring reveals secrets that have been hidden for millions of years and helps in the search for new energy sources such as oil and gas. With the completion of the Piston Coring on November 9, the original investigation is also completed.

The samples are now sent to the lab for further research.
